MANILA, Philippines - In a significant development for the energy and waste management sectors here, China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd (Energy China) has made a major breakthrough in the Philippine market. On November 9, local time, the company successfully inked an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract with the IGT Group for the Northern Davao Waste-to-Energy Plant project. This milestone deal marks Energy China's first foray into overseas garbage incineration power generation projects.
The Northern Davao Waste-to-Energy Plant is set to be a substantial addition to the region's infrastructure. With a construction scale designed to handle 2x960 tons of waste on a daily basis, it will also have the capacity to generate 2x22.5MW of power. The project has a slated construction period of 36 months. Once up and running, it is expected to play a crucial role in resolving the local waste management conundrums, offering a two-pronged benefit of spurring regional economic development while also safeguarding the environment. It is poised to set a new standard for eco-friendly energy initiatives in the area.
The IGT Group, a prominent player in the waste-to-energy domain in Davao, commands high regard in international environmental protection circles, especially when it comes to European waste management. Boasting over 30 years of experience and possessing remarkable technical acumen, IGT has left its mark by constructing more than 200 plants across more than 23 countries around the globe. This extensive track record provides a solid technical foundation and instills confidence in the success of the Northern Davao project.
Looking back at the project's evolution, both the Philippine regional company affiliated with Energy China and the company's International Business Department were actively involved in helping the project owner formulate effective technical solutions. During this process, the IGT Group had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the technical prowess and professionalism of Dongdian No.1 Company. Through visits to completed projects such as the Mesameis Power Plant and Conceptson Power Plant in the Philippines, IGT witnessed first-hand the high-quality performance of Dongdian No.1 on past projects. This led to their expressing strong admiration for its engineering standards and a sense of confidence in future collaborations.
The signing of this contract for the Davao Waste-to-Energy Project represents a crucial step for Energy China as it embarks on its "International Re-Start" strategy. By seizing opportunities in overseas markets, with a particular focus on key countries like the Philippines, the company is seeking new growth points. This initiative holds great strategic significance as it aims to expand its footprint in the environmental energy sectors within the Philippines and strengthen its transformation into overseas business operations. Through the application of advanced technology that transforms waste into a valuable resource, Energy China, in tandem with the IGT Group, is set to make a positive contribution to both the Philippine environmental conservation efforts and the optimization of the global energy structure.
As the project gears up for construction, the eyes of the industry and the local community will be watching closely to see how this ambitious endeavor unfolds and delivers on its promised benefits.
