The quality team found an issue with the stand-up pouch, where the distance between the tear notch and top edge is 3mm too short. The root cause was identified as a loose locknut during adjustment, and permanent measures have been implemented to prevent this from happening again.
Bad news from the stand up pouch
Today, we received concerning news from our quality team regarding the stand-up pouch: the distance between the tear notch and the top edge did not meet customer specifications, falling short by 3mm. The production factory has already produced a significant batch, indicating a widespread quality issue. This stand-up pouch is used by customers for packaging coffee. We immediately organized a quality coordination meeting to analyze this quality incident involving the stand-up pouch, with participation from both our team and the manufacturer. We conducted an in-depth analysis of the causes of this issue from six perspectives: man, machine, material, method, environment, and measurement. The root cause was ultimately identified as the failure to reach the required torque when tightening the locknut during the adjustment of the tear notch cutting machine, resulting in the misalignment of the limit block. In response to this issue, we required the supplier to implement permanent measures immediately. By using the MES system in conjunction with Atlas torque wrenches, the tightening torque is collected every time there is a changeover, thereby ensuring that the locknuts remain securely fastened. Although the tear notch does not significantly affect product usage, this quality incident still requires proactive communication with the customer to ensure their acceptance before shipment can proceed. We truly hope this will not adversely impact the customer.
