Chili peppers are grown in 28 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) across the country, mainly in provinces such as Guizhou, Henan, Yunnan, Inner Mongolia, Chongqing, etc; There are seven major production areas, namely the main production areas of chili peppers in central China, the main production areas of chili peppers in northern protected areas, the main production areas of spicy peppers in southern China, the main production areas of chili peppers in northwestern China, the main production areas of summer and autumn chili peppers in northeastern open fields, the main production areas of southern and northern transportation of chili peppers, and the main production areas of high mountain vegetables.

The top three export markets for chili peppers in China are the United States, Japan, and Spain, with export values of $350 million, $200 million, and $150 million, respectively, accounting for 41.1% of the total chili pepper export volume; The top three major sources of imports are India, Myanmar, and Thailand, with imports of $330 million, $30 million, and $20 million, respectively, accounting for 95.0% of the total chili pepper imports. Among them, the United States has become China's largest pepper export market for 11 consecutive years, and India has become the largest source of imports for 4 consecutive years.

Pepper is one of the important vegetable crops in China, with many processed products, a long industrial chain, and high added value. Developing the chili industry is of great significance for promoting farmers' income growth.
