Here is a basic commercial reach-in refrigerator. It's 29 inches wide. It has temperature control. It's one of the cheapest refrigerators on webstaurant.com It costs $1,450.

Here is a commercial refrigerator/freezer combo. It's 25 inches wide. I can't find anything special about it. It's the cheapest combo on the site. It costs $3,875.

his is a consumer-grade refrigerator that costs $850. I've seen it on sale for $600.

This is what you get in consumer-grade for $3,850. It has four sections that can be configured for refrigerator or freezer temperatures. It has an ice make. And it has a damn table built into it.

I understand that these consumer-grade features would not be useful in a commercial kitchen. But I don't understand why commercial fridges and freezers are so expensive. What do they offer that justifies the price?

The reason for the question: I'm starting a small food business in a commissary kitchen. I have to provide my own refrigerator. If I need to refrigerate 100-ish pounds of raw meat, and freeze 50-ish pounds of prepared food, would I benefit from commercial equipment? Or should I just grab a basic fridge from Best Buy?
